Strengthening and Toughening Epoxy Composites by Constructing MOF/CF Multi-Scale Reinforcement

The interfacial designing of carbon fiber (CF)/epoxy composites, as a well-accepted method used to obtain high-performance has gained extensive attention. However, an improvement in adhesion is usually accompanied by simultaneous decrease toughness, which become obstacle the performance enhancement CF/epoxy composites. Herein, nanosized UiO-66-NH2 was proposed yield on CF surface through situ growth for preparing induced could significantly enhance active groups, roughness and wettability surface, can be confirmed XPS, FTIR, dynamic contact angle (DCA) SEM. Moreover, porous structure enables epoxy resin pass it, toughen matrix forming interpenetrating network reducing density crosslinking. Meanwhile, size effect hinder crack propagation release stress concentration. Benefiting from these strengthening toughening effects, interlaminar shear strength impact increased 44.2% 27.6%, respectively, comparison those untreated CF. This work proposes simple effective strategy that offer new ideas solving conflict between provide practical basis
